WHAT IS THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE It is a system of subtle and precise mobilizations called "Bowen moves" over muscles, tendons, nerves and fascia. The moves are performed using the thumbs and fingers applying only gentle, non invasive pressure. A treatment consist of a series of specific sequences of precise moves called procedures , with frequent pauses to allow time for the body to respond. The art of Bowen is somewhere between the art of Zen calligraphy and Homeopathic medicine. The practitioner must strive to do the minimum of moves or procedures to trigger in the body the desired self healing response. Doing too many mobilizations could actually be counteractive. The more sick the patient is or the more acute the condition is, the less is done during the session and the less pressure will be used to do the moves, the more profound the effect will be on the body. One motto of the technique is "Less is more" and the therapist must sense when enough has been done. BOWEN THERAPY IS HOLISTIC BOWTECH is an essential tool to facilitate whole body healing. BOWTECH moves enable incredible results by activating the bodys own ability to heal itself; therefore stimulating an immediate healing process. This process is not limited to the presenting physical symptom but extends to the emotional, cognitive and spiritual aspects of the individual client. After a short interview, the patient will be invited to lie down on a massage table although the session can be done sitting on a chair if the patient for whatever reason cannot lie down on a prone or supine position. There is no need to undress, the moves can be done through thin and loose clothing although skin contact is often preferable. A typical session starts with the administration of 3 basic sequences of moves to rebalance the lower back/sacrum, upper back and neck region. This basic recipe addresses the whole body and most conditions presented. To this general basic rebalancing, the practitioner can choose to add a few more specific procedures to address a particular problem. All the mobilizations are gentle and non invasive. Often moves will be synchronized with the patient's breath. The initial reaction of patients used to other modalities using deep probing, rubbing, stretching or manipulating may be to wonder if anything has been done or if the session will have any effect on them but very often they will quickly experience a deep sense of general relaxation. The entire process is so soothing that it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the session. They often report feelings of energy release and relief following a move. There are frequent pauses during the session, these are important to give time for the body to respond to the moves. During these pauses it is common that the practitioner leaves the room to let the patient rest quietly. During the session small talks are not encouraged as everything done by the practitioner and the general ambiance of the treatment room (quiet or soft music, comfortable room temperature, etc.) should invite relaxation. A typical session will usually last from 20 to 50 minutes. Some sessions can be very short, 5 minutes or less, when using some advanced procedures or if doing a "quick fix" to address something very specific. The patient will be helped off the table and invited to walk for a few minutes at the end of the treatment to help alleviate possible residual pain experienced standing up from the table. Substantial if not total relief may be experienced by the end of the session or in the following hours or days as the body continues to rebalance itself. To support this process and help integrate new movement patterns, patients will be asked to follow specific recommendations, drink more water than usual and walk regularly. The day of the treatment it is important not to sit more than 30 minutes at a time, avoid strenuous exercise and hot baths or showers, heating pads or ice as it could somewhat antidote the effect of the session. Since the main goal of the technique is to stimulate the body to engage its own self healing mechanism it can be used effectively to reduce rehabilitation time after any illness, surgery or injury regardless of how old or recent it may be. The BOWTECH does not seek to treat specific condition or disease but rather to gently stimulate the body to heal itself. The following list of diagnosed conditions comes from claims of patients worldwide that found relief from such conditions.Musculo skeletal conditions of the spine and limbs, Sports injuries, Pelvic imbalances, Frozen shoulder, Whiplash, Sacro iliac pain and imbalances, Coccyx pain, Migraine headaches from stress and tension, Hamstrings, TMJ, Knee, Ankle, Elbow, Fibromyalgia, PMS, Carpal tunnel, Digestive problems, Bed wetting, Respiratory conditions: Asthma, hay fever allergies, emphysema, cold & flu, sinus congestion.BOWTECH is a complementary modality meaning it will enhance and complement, not interfere with other medical attention. However manipulation, deep tissue massage, acupuncture or the use of electro-therapy immediately following a Bowen session can undermine its effectiveness. This is due to the fact that following a Bowen session, the body most often continues to go through changes for the next 2 to 5 days, from self adjustments to a noticeable release of toxins. AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM REBALANCING This is maybe one of the most profound and important effect that the Bowen technique has on the organism and where the self healing mechanisms of the body are mostly stimulated. The autonomic nervous system controls over 80% of bodily functions (cardiac, respiratory, peripheral circulation, reproductive, endocrine, gastrointestinal... ) and is very susceptible to stress and emotional states . Most people living in our modern "civilized" society are in a constant state of high stress and sympathetic over stimulation. This could explain why so many people can't heal or experience incomplete recovery from sickness or injuries. For healing to happen the organism needs to shift from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance and for this to happen it needs time & space to literally unwind and digest physical and emotional stress. This is what the BOWTECH does. This Technique is an antidote to modern living for the practitioner & the patient. The Bowen Technique affects the body primarily through two of its main regulatory systems; the nervous system and the energetic system to bring it back to a state of balance or homeostasis. FASCIA Every Bowen move is done at the level of the superficial fascia and will disturb and free the relation between the fascia and the nerve, muscle or tendon being mobilized. The main role of the fascia is to connect, it's why it is also called connective tissue. It connects everything in the body: muscles, bones, internal organs and central nervous system. It plays a major role in muscle coordination, flexibility, postural alignment and overall structural and functional integrity. Fascia also holds memories of trauma (physical as well as emotional) by literally shortening, contracting, torquing and dehydrating. Following a Bowen session it is not uncommon for patients to feel emotions related to old trauma resurface as adhesions loosen up, scar tissue soften, posture, flexibility and mobility improve without harsh mobilization, deep probing or stretching of the fascia. BOWTECH affects very strongly the Chakra system and Auric field. From a clairvoyant point of view a patient suffering from physical pain or emotional stress will show imbalances in the chakra system and areas of dense gray, low frequency energy in the auric field. After receiving a few Bowen moves, the energy in the auric field will be instantly stirred up and gradually the areas of dense gray energy will clear and shift to white light or gold vibration energy. If the cause of the blocked energy was from an emotional origin, as the energy in the auric field gets shifted, emotions may come up.
